Mapping a duck: geological features and region definitions on comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko

چکیده

The data from the Rosetta mission have permitted a reconstruction of shape comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko and an identification terrains features forming surface. peculiar has made it challenging to project these geological onto unambiguous frame. As result, maps published date are created on top images, making them dependent viewing angle image resolution. To overcome this limitation, we present integrated set northern hemisphere comet, displayed in projection. new combine landmarks previous studies single framework completed with newly identified features. The presence of clathrates in comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.

Cometary nuclei are considered to most closely reflect the composition of the building blocks of our solar system. As such, comets carry important information about the prevalent conditions in the solar nebula before and after planet formation. Recent measurements of the time variation of major and minor volatile species in the coma of the Jupiter family comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko (67P) by...

Surface changes on comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko suggest a more active past.

The Rosetta spacecraft spent ~2 years orbiting comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, most of it at distances that allowed surface characterization and monitoring at submeter scales. From December 2014 to June 2016, numerous localized changes were observed, which we attribute to cometary-specific weathering, erosion, and transient events driven by exposure to sunlight and other processes. While the l...

Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko preserved the pebbles that formed planetesimals

Solar System formation models predict that the building-blocks of planetesimals were mmto cm-sized pebbles, aggregates of ices and non-volatile materials, consistent with the compact particles ejected by comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko (67P hereafter) and detected by GIADA (Grain Impact Analyzer and Dust Accumulator) on-board the Rosetta spacecraft. Planetesimals were formed by the gentle gravi...

Physical properties and dynamical relation of the circular depressions on comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko

Aims. We aim to characterize the circular depressions of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko and investigate whether such surface morphology of a comet nucleus is related to the cumulative sublimation effect since becoming a Jupiter family comet (JFC). Methods. The images from the Rosetta/OSIRIS science camera experiment are used to construct size frequency distributions of the circular depression ...

Plasma environment of a weak comet – Predictions for Comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko from multifluid-MHD and Hybrid models

The interaction of a comet with the solar wind undergoes various stages as the comet’s activity varies along its orbit. For a comet like 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko, the target comet of ESA’s Rosetta mission, the various features include the formation of a Mach cone, the bow shock, and close to perihelion even a diamagnetic cavity. There are different approaches to simulate this complex interplay...
